Artificial Intelligence and Legal Methods –  Navigating the New Frontier

The Swedish Law and Informatics Research Institute, The Swedish Association for Law and IT and The Foundation for Legal Information warmly welcomes you to the XXXIX Nordic Conference in Law and IT, Artificial Intelligence and Legal Methods – Navigating the New Frontier, 5-6 November 2024.

Participation is possible on site at Garnisonen in Stockholm.

1. AI and Legislation
This section discusses how AI is challenging the legislative process. e.g. new needs for internationalisation, balancing of commercial interests vs. security, uncertainties – lobbying by bloomers, gloomers and doomers., proactivity and integration of code as law and soft law. Big tech jurisdictions and demoted Legislation.

2. Wider Social Implications
This section explores the societal implications of AI in law, including issues of social acceptance, access to courts, digital divide, human dignity, vulnerability, security, breakdowns and errors, technocracy (e.g. circumvented freedom, segregation) eroded democracy and manipulation.

3. AI and Legal Reasoning
Here, the focus is on how AI is transforming legal reasoning and decision-making processes. Need for risk analysis, data driven society and processes, the limits of LLMs and Legal LLMs (LLLMs) Transparency, predictability, trust, ethics, rationalisation, automation and 24/7 e-governance.

4. Ways Ahead
This final section look forward to the potential future developments in AI and legal methodologies, discussing emerging trends and their possible impacts. This includes Interdisciplinary methodological cooperation, legal educational reforms, technology taking over legal functions. In other words, the future of the legal domain, the legal profession and law.
