The Laws of Adaptation – Harvard Law Today
In Harvard Law Today there is an article about a nearby change in the legal profession. “The warning bells have been ringing for at least two decades: The legal profession as we’ve known it is doomed, and lawyers must adapt – or face extinction. For the most part, these dire predictions have been ignored, even as globalization and technology have revolutionized markets, affecting everything from airline travel to taxicabs. Yes, law firms have been outsourcing legal research to India, and electronic discovery is taking over some basic tasks. But lawyers have tended to see themselves as immune: a guild of highly educated advisers whose wisdom, savvy and deep understanding of a complex series of laws are irreplaceable.”
Three PhD positions – Security in Internet Governance and Networks: Analysing the Law
Three positions as PhD research fellows are available, each for three years, to undertake research as part of the project “Security in Internet Governance and Networks: Analysing the Law” (SIGNAL). The project is funded by the Norwegian Research Council and UNINETT Norid AS. The appointees will work as part of a team at the Norwegian Research Centre for Computers and Law, University of Oslo, in collaboration with an interdisciplinary group of experts from other universities.
The period for each fellowship may be extended up to four (4) years, with teaching, supervision duties and research assistance constituting 25 % of the workload. A prerequisite for such an extension is that the appointee meets the current teaching needs of the Faculty of Law.

Bridging the Digital Divide, Jan 19, 2016
Bridging the Digital Divide: Ensuring High-Speed and Quality Internet in Europe Beyond 2020 will take place on Tuesday 19th January, 2016 at Thon Hotel Brussels City Centre.
In the era of fast and ultra-fast internet, the European Union has set ambitious objectives in order to keep pace with world leaders such as South Korea and Japan. As part of the Europe 2020 strategy, the Digital Agenda drafted by the European Commission aims at providing download rates of at least 30 Mbps for all its citizens across Europe as well as to reach a target of 50% of European households subscribing to internet connections above 100 Mbps by 2020. The Commission’s Communication on a Digital Single Market Strategy for Europe (May 2015) reinforces the role of high-speed, secure and affordable digital networks as the main driver for digital products and services to flourish.

- Markus Bylund, doktor i datalogi, forskningsledare SICS Swedish ICT
- Jonas Andersson Schwarz, doktor i medie- och kommunikationsvetenskap, Södertörns högskola
